REFORM AREA 3:

Elevating the EFA Profile; Establishing the FTI Brand

 

Objective of Reform:

Strong and sustained high-level political and financial commitment for EFA goals with the EFA FTI presented as an effective global forum for facilitating coordinated aid and education results

Actions

  1. Establish and expand unit in FTI Secretariat for External Relations, Communications and Fundraising
  2. Design and implement comprehensive communications strategy in support of advocacy for education, FTI profile, fundraising and rebranding
  3. Secure high-profile FTI champions on education sector
  4. All partners advocate for and communicate EFA FTI results

Progress to Date

  • High-level education event ‘Making 1Goal a reality’ at the UN MDG summit in New York in September 2010; a joint event by the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) and EFA FTI
  • Launch of video about education results in Sub-Saharan Africa, notably Mozambique (September 2010)
  • Public letter by 13 African leaders calling for support for EFA FTI around the World Cup in South Africa (July 2010)
  • Website redesigned and re-launched with focus on communicating results (May 2010)
  • Materials (print, video and website) presenting results in FTI-endorsed countries produced (November 2010) More detailed country results stories to be published in glossy form in the first half of 2011.
  • Head of External Relations and  Communications Team within FTI Secretariat hired in October 2010
  • High-level speaking engagements of FTI at relevant conferences in Germany, USA, Canada, France, UK, Australia and Greece (May – October 2010)
  • "Learning for All: An Educational Case for Financial Replenishment of EFA FTI" published March 2010
  • A fast track to 2015: educating the world's children for a better future" – detailing FTI’s financing request, published in October 2009 
  • High-level roundtable on Financing Education for All at September 2009 World Bank Annual Meeting in Istanbul to kick off FTI’s resource mobilization.
