Catalytic Fund

The Catalytic Fund is a multi-donor trust fund. Its purpose is to provide transitional financial assistance to countries whose education sector plans have been endorsed by donors through the Global Partnership for Education review process, but which have difficulty mobilizing additional external funding at the country level.

Support from the Catalytic Fund is expected to enable countries to begin scaling up the implementation of their sector programs.

  • Donors currently supporting the Catalytic Fund: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, the European Commission, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
  • 37 countries have received allocations from the Catalytic Fund: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Central African Republic (CAR), Djibouti, Ethiopia, the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guyana, Haiti, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Lao PDR, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Mali, Malawi, Mauritania, Moldova, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tajikistan, Timor Leste, Togo,  Yemen, and Zambia.
